Football Rules and Regulations

Here are the rules and regulations created by Louisiana STB SPARTANS for our football games and tournaments. Be sure to go through the following details before you register your team for the upcoming football match.


The purpose of Louisiana STB SPARTANS football program is to guide each participant through an organized program that will help develop the fundamentals of football. The goal is to encourage skill development and foster a positive attitude and sportsmanship inside the pitch.

General Tournament Rules and Eligibility

The current LHSAA rules will govern the game except modified herein.

1.) The player's age as of May 1st of the year shall determine the player's age classification for the current season. Each player must have a birth certificate for this current tournament.

  • 6U Weight Limit: 85 lbs.
  • 8U Weight Limit: 110 lbs.

  • 10U Weight Limit: 135 lbs.
  • 12U Weight Limit: 160 lbs.

  • 14U Weight: Open
  • 15U Weight: Open

Each player will be weighed an hour before each game in front of a coach. It is the coach’s responsibility to bring the team to the weigh-in site before each game. Any team who is not weighed in before the game will have a 10-yard unsportsmanlike penalty on the starting kickoff.

2.) Any player who is not weighed in 10 minutes before the start of the game will have to wait until half-time to be weighed in.

3.) Any player whose initial weight exceeds the limit will have an identifying sticker affixed to the helmet and will be allowed to participate in the game as an offensive/defensive lineman only (tackle-to-tackle only). It is the coach's responsibility to make sure that the player over the weight limit always has the sticker affixed to their helmet. Any player who exceeds the weight limit may not play on special teams or advance. Any player over the weight limit must be in a three- or four-point stand at the snap of the ball.

4.) Any coach who lets an illegible player to play will be subject to a forfeit.

5.) Team Rosters

Rosters must be typed or printed in ink. A team member without a complete registration form and all the necessary information is considered an ineligible player.

During the football tournament, no more than 5 coaches will be allowed on the sidelines during games.

All teams must have at least 11 players to play. Unless a player is removed due to injury or other circumstances, the team will be allowed to continue with 10 players. No teams will be allowed to play with less 10 players.

Game-day rosters must be turned in to a representative on duty at weigh in. No team is allowed to participate unless at least one of the listed coaches is present.

No player is allowed to play without protective equipment and mouthpieces.

Mouthpieces must be attached to the facemask and clearly visible to the officers prior to each play.
